YANGON, Myanmar — UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, welcomes the arrival of a European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) Humanitarian Air Bridge flight in Myanmar. The flight delivered 46 tonnes of essential medical and nutrition supplies to support communities impacted by an exceptionally strong monsoon season.

Currently, more than 16 million people — over a third of Myanmar’s population — require humanitarian assistance due to ongoing conflict, displacement, and recurring natural disasters. Among those in need are an estimated 8.4 million women and girls who require life-saving sexual and reproductive health and protection services.

These supplies will enable UNFPA to directly address these critical vulnerabilities. By delivering integrated essential healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support, and gender-based violence prevention and response services, UNFPA works to safeguard the health, dignity, and well-being of women and girls across crisis-affected communities in Myanmar.

"UNFPA is proud to have been part of this first humanitarian flight, and we look forward to continuing our engagement with European Union Humanitarian Aid to bring in critical, life-saving supplies for women and girls who need them most.

"We are sincerely grateful for EU Humanitarian Aid's unwavering support in helping to safeguard the health, rights, and choices of women and girls across Myanmar," said Jaime Nadal, UNFPA Representative to Myanmar.

UNFPA, together with UNICEF, is managing the delivered supplies, ensuring effective distribution to address the urgent health and protection needs of women and girls on the ground.

In response to these critical needs, the European Union is also releasing €750,000 to help prevent and respond to outbreaks of cholera and other waterborne diseases in the country.

The partnership with the European Union has been instrumental in ensuring that women and girls in Myanmar continue to receive life-saving healthcare and protection services, even in the most difficult circumstances. The European Union remains one of UNFPA’s key humanitarian partners in Myanmar.

UNFPA expresses its appreciation to the European Union for its support through EU Humanitarian Aid, helping to sustain critical services that continue to make a life-saving difference for women and girls in Myanmar.
