NAY PYI TAW – UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has donated medical supplies containing medicines, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to counterpart ministries in support of Myanmar’s response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The handover ceremony of the essential items took place in Nay Pyi Taw attended by the UNHCR Representative a.i. and senior officials from the Government of Myanmar.

• Today, on World Humanitarian Day, the United Nations wishes to acknowledge the tireless efforts of local humanitarian workers in Myanmar to respond to the needs of people affected by conflicts, natural disasters and the evolving COVID-19 outbreak.

• The UN Human Rights Office for South-East Asia urged the Myanmar Government to embrace the opportunity of a looming national election to take a new and fully inclusive democratic path, and to address the root causes of violations and abuses suffered by ethnic minorities.
