UNHCR Flash Update on Earthquake in Myanmar #16
23 August 2025
Highlights
- UNHCR and humanitarian actors continue to assist earthquake affected communities remaining in need for assistance. During the reporting period, heavy rains continued to create additional challenges including landslides putting communities’ safety at risk, with children, women, and elderly people being the most affected, particularly in earthquakeaffected areas where people already have to face higher levels of vulnerabilities.
To date, over 146,000 people have received assistance from UNHCR and partners. More than 220,000 people have been reached through protection monitoring and sectorial need assessments, which continue to guide targeted support for the most vulnerable, including those with specific needs, amidst new challenges induced by the current monsoon season.
