phan@unfpa.org, Karin.fueg@unwomen.org16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence events in Myanmar
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) will take place under the 2020 theme Orange the world: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”
The United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE by 2030 to end violence against women released the global theme in support of the 2020 campaign activities framed under the conceptual framework of the UN Political Engagement Strategy and focus on advocacy for “Fund, Respond, Prevent, and Collect” to end Violence against Women (VAW).
The local effort in Myanmar will also contribute to and support the global theme of the UNiTE campaign for 2020 and given the current context of COVID-19 and the increase in GBV, call for more efforts to strengthen legal framework for the passing of the Protection and Prevention of Violence against Women (PoVAW) bill and also call for immediate action to respond to GBV in COVID-19 context, such as more Funding for EVAW, more evidence through data collection to better Prevent and Respond to VAW.
As co-chairs, UNFPA and UN Women will coordinate UN Gender Theme Group for the wider UN system to support the national campaign through MNCW, led by DSW with support from VAW Technical Working Group and the GBV working groups at national and field levels.
