Myanmar Earthquake: UNHCR Flash Update #4
Highlights
One month after the earthquake struck Myanmar, including regions hosting large numbers of internally displaced people, UNHCR – together with its partners and in coordination with inter-agency clusters – continues to deliver necessary humanitarian assistance.
To date, approximately 70,000 people (14,700 families) have received support through the distribution of core relief items (CRIs), shelter materials, or multi-purpose aid. Needs remain high, and assessments and outreach to additional affected areas is ongoing. With the onset of rains in some earthquake-affected locations, UNHCR continues to provide assistance in close consultation with affected communities and key stakeholders.
An airlift sponsored by ECHO arrived on 27 April, delivering 80 metric tons of CRIs, including kitchen sets, tarpaulins, solar lamps, and buckets. Another airlift supported by Flexport is expected to arrive today, with further supplies set to arrive by sea.
